A Celebration of You

Ana Lema

Updated: Jan 27, 2024

I wrote this for my high school's literary journal, but also for myself. A Celebration of You is an ode to advice columns. Within my words are pieces of advice I wish I was told growing up, both as a woman and an individual in the 21st century.

Dear Reader,

Make time for solitude, understand the thin line between isolation and self company. Embrace the finest of your characteristics, reconcile with your feelings, and your mind’s fragments of worry. Accept what won’t change. Revive others during times of despondency. Value yourself and the moments you retain self compassion. Visualize your recovery, and begin taking a direction that will lead you to self discovery.

Are my initiatives the most honest reflections of myself, and the life I have developed? Moments from now, I will be all but grown, and awaiting more of life’s strains. My life will be a consistent cycle of growth, and many foretell theirs to be too.

I always wanted what others had, those of artless eyes, to those of fixed mindsets. My subconsciousness was liberated from the presence of originality, my soul was a clone of another. Temporary emotions dictated my self-image and after many years this ‘temporary feeling’ developed into a permanent apprehension. I am still in the process of recognizing my maturity, growing into my own words, and truly understanding every aspect of my life. Despite this, I have healed my energy, the one once formatted around my negative influences.

Ariel Savitch for From Ana

With transparency and attempted honesty I strengthen you to leave your reckless, validation seeking habits. Give yourself space to flourish. Explore what matters to you. Know you don’t always have to make decisions unaccompanied. Pull away from discouraging thoughts. Uplift those in a familiar position. Enliven those who fall below you. Abandon what no longer serves you.

Now you can decide what impact you make.

It's just you and a life you can manage. Be the person you long to be.

For all that you’ve completed and all you strive to fulfill, thank yourself and your willingness to grow.

Thanks for spending part of your day with me. See you next week. -Ana
